PianoDisc recordings honor Gershwin's 100th

This year, PianoDisc celebrates the 100th birthday of the late composer George Gershwin by recording two complete disks of his music for the PianoDisc system.

Richard Glazier and Alicia Zizzo, who will record these disks, are well-acquainted with Gershwin's career and compositions, including such classics as Rhapsody in Blue and An American in Paris.

As a music student, Glazier--an internationally-known pianist who has performed at Carnegie Hall, and won the 1994 Pro Musicis International Award--once played Gershwin's personal piano at the home of the composer's brother, Ira.  This experience inspired him to study piano at Indiana University, earn a doctorate in musical arts from Cleveland Institute of Music, and, ultimately, embark on a concert career that includes many Gershwin pieces.

Zizzo is a Gershwin scholar who is restoring and reconstructing the composer's original musical transcripts from personal handwritten fragments, sketches and partially-completed scores.  Using such resources as the Library of Congress, the Gershwin estate, and Gershwin biographer Edward Jablonski to complete the project, Zizzo has produced what many already consider the most faithful versions of Gershwin's piano music to date.

Artist Series: Alicia Zizzo and Artist Series: Richard Glazier will be released by mid-year, and are among the latest entries in the PianoDisc music library, which includes nearly 4,000 musical compositions.
